Legislators created the Texas Veterans Land Board Home Loan to assist Texas Veterans in the purchase of a home while also offering low interest rates with no money down. The Texas Veterans Land Board Home Loan offers loans for new and existing homes. The major advantages to the program are:

- Only available to Texas Residents who have VA Benefits
- Veterans with 30% or more disability receive .5% reduction to their interest rate
- Also available to surviving spouses who can use the benefits as well
A Texas Veteran Land Board Home Loan is not the same as a VA loan. Any veteran who has ever had a VA loan can still get a VLB loan. Although the VLB loan cannot be used to refinance a home, it can still be used to obtain money with a first time lien on the veteran’s primary residence. A veteran can also have more than one VLB at one time after one VLB loan has been successfully paid off in full. The Veterans Land Board interest rate is currently at 6.75% for land loans while the home and home improvement loan interest rate is at 3.99%. Please note, All VLB discounts and interest rates are subject to rate change at any time. The lender determines a secure rate lock for the veteran. Should there be more than one rate lock within a one year period; the highest rate will be locked in. If the veteran has more than 30% disability they will receive another .5% rate reduction to the rate. Contact VA Loans Center for assistance in obtaining your loan. During the Texas Revolution, this was achieved by giving the military land. The Texas Veterans Land Board (VLB) began in 1946 and administered benefits specifically for Texas veterans. There have been more than 200,000 loans funded for Texas since then.

In the year of 2006, in order to augment federal vet’s cemeteries and to also allow vets to be buried within closer proximity of their family and home, the Texas Veterans Land Board opened the very first state cemetery in Killeen and cemeteries in Abilene, Corpus Christi and Mission, Texas followed.
